Steindorsstadir Guesthouse is a great location to depart from to many of the greatest attraction West Iceland has to offer.
On site is a popular hiking trail up Rauðsgil canyon. The canyon seperates Steindorsstaðir from it´s naighborgin farm Rauðsgil. Many pretty waterfalls are in the canyon.
A bit further than the last waterfall, on the east side of the river, is ,,Fellaflói“, which icelandic poet Jón Helgason writes about in his poem ,,Á Rauðsgili“/,,At Rauðsgil“.
To go horseback riding Okveg is another popular pasttime, the way goes up along the canyon all the way up to Tjaldhóll and from there onto Okveg itself. Also the view from the farms mountainridge is very pretty.
The closest sight is Reykholt, only 2 km. from Steindorsstadir. This is a historic site where Snorri Sturluson lived. You can still see remarkable ruins dating from his tim, such as Snorri´s pool. Snorrastofa, built to honor Snorri´s memory, holds interesting events and shows in the basement of the church. There you will also find a library and a wonderful giftshop. At Hotel Reykholt is also a good resturant and spa.
Deildartunguhver is the europes biggest hot spring. This amaizing site is only 9. km away. This summer (2016) there will open a water resort called Krauma. There you can relax in natural baths from europes biggest geyser
Hraunfossar is a beatufull place only 15 km from Steindórsstadir. It has water floting from underneeth an old lava field forming an amaizing set of waterfalls.
Húsafell is 25 km away, on the rute past Hraunfossar. There you will find a swimming pool, golf course and pretty hiking tracks. It is the home of Páll Guðmundsson artist and his works can be seen in the forms of sculptures in natural stones, as you walk through the area.
Hvanneyri is 20 km from Steindorsstadir towards Borgarnes. There you will fing attractions such as Ullarselið a gift shop that specializes in products made out of sheepwool, Museum of Agriculture and the University of Agriculture in Iceland.
Borgarnes is 44 km away. Biggest down in Brogarfjordur. There you will find a great swimmming pool, Borgarfjörður Heritage Museum, Settlement Center, shops, 18 hole golf curse and more.
The Snæfellsnes peninsula is also a great day trip from The guesthouse. The peninsula is with out a doupt a must see while you stay in Iceland. It has everything from small fishintowns to a beautiful glacier
Nordurardalur is also a short ride from the farm. There you will see sights such as, Hreðavatn, Baula mountain, Glanni waterfall and Grabrouk valcano.
